Why Take Magnesium?

The number 1 reason why I personally take magnesium is to help with stress.

When we are stressed, magnesium in our body is one of the first things that gets a big hit.

I also take magnesium for bone/joint health and for aiding energy. It really does help when you are feeling tired and low on energy.

Low levels of magnesium in the body can increase stress, and high levels of physical or mental stress can lower magnesium.

SIGNS YOU MAY BE DEFICIENT

Twitchy eye

Tired all the time

Brain fog

Sleep problems

Muscle cramps

Anxiety and depression

REASONS TO TAKE MAGNESIUM

1. Bone Health: Magnesium is crucial for the formation of bones and teeth. It works alongside calcium and vitamin D to ensure strong and healthy bones

2. Muscle Function: It helps regulate muscle contractions and relaxations. Adequate magnesium levels can prevent cramps, spasms, and muscle aches

3. Nervous System Support: Magnesium plays a key role in maintaining a healthy nervous system

4. Heart Health: It contributes to maintaining a healthy heart rhythm and can help lower blood pressure. Magnesium is known to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases

5. Energy Production: Magnesium is involved in the production of energy within the cells. It is a critical component of the ATP (adenosine triphosphate) molecule, which is the main source of energy in the body. (So if you are deficient, you will feel tired and have less energy)

6. Blood Sugar Regulation: It helps regulate blood sugar levels and can improve insulin sensitivity, making it beneficial for people with type 2 diabetes

7. Mood and Mental Health: Magnesium is known to have a calming effect on the brain and can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. It also plays a role in regulating sleep patterns

8. Anti-inflammatory Properties: It has anti-inflammatory effects that can help reduce inflammation in the body, which is linked to numerous chronic diseases

FOODS

Nuts and seeds

Green leafy vegetables

Bananas

Peanut butter

Nut milk

TIP - Make a quick smoothie to increase your magnesium; one banana, a handful of spinach, nut milk, a spoon of peanut butter, some seeds and water for consistency. Do't be put off by the spinach. It has a really lovely, creamy taste. Trust me

HOW TO TAKE MAGNESIUM

A really good way to take magnesium is straight through the skin. So you can have bath salts (Epsom) or creams, sprays and lotions. Cream on the feet before bed is great to aid sleep

Supplements - I use Together Health
