The number one thing you can focus on is your STRESS levels and bringing it down.
One of the things that you will have noticed is that you will get stressed much quicker than you used to before peri and menopause. You won't be able to cope with stressful situations like you used to. Your body simply isn't letting you.
Because of your diminishing oestrogen and progesterone, your body is producing more cortisol to try and counteract this. It's literally creating a fire in your body. And it's up to you - do you want to damper the flames so you can feel better or do you want to add fuel to the already burning fire? It's completely up to you? Your choice!
If you do any of the below you are adding more cortisol to your body. This will increase your menopause symptoms; the hot flushes, night sweats, the lack of sleep, the weight gain, the moods, the lack of energy, the aching joints.... and it goes on and on.
The viscous circle continues, the stress continues and the menopause symptoms continue. If you want to stop or damper the flames of the fire, you need to stop or reduce the following....
- Drinking alcohol - your body can't cope with alcohol like it used to. I'm sorry. I know you don't want to hear this, but alcohol is not helping you. It will impact your stress, your sleep, your, hot flushes, night sweats, mood and energy.
- Eating sugar rich food - I don't just mean cakes. Sugar is in so many foods and drinks. Packaged foods, tinned foods and jars
- Eating a diet high in processed foods
So - WHAT CAN YOU DO?
- Reduce or even get rid of all of the above. Try it. Do it for a month and see just how good you feel - you may be pleasantly surprised
- Cook from scratch as often as possible
- Move more
- Have some me time - put yourself first!
- Concentrate on getting on top of your sleep
- Laugh, have fun, live in the moment
